Who Should Attend This Workshop?
This workshop is suitable for serious amateurs looking to build a new business, new professionals, or professionals looking to expand their business to include equine photography.
Why Should You Choose This Workshop?
This is a true workshop, focused on teaching you more about how to photograph horses for portrait shoots, and how to start/run an animal photography business. Our photo shoots will provide portfolio building opportunities (all legal releases for horses and models are provided), and will include challenges faced in real-world scenarios. There will be a maximum of 6 attendees, so each participant will receive lots of individual attention from the 2 instructors. After the workshop, you will receive additional mentoring and coaching (one hour from each instructor, plus exclusive access to an online Facebook group for attendees. Our instructors have many years combined experience in photography, in building successful businesses, and in teaching and mentoring. (See intructor bios here)
What Experience Is Required?
You should have an understanding of how to operate your DSLR camera beyond its automatic settings, and you should have basic familiarity with Photoshop or a similar editing program. No experience with horses is required. No business experience is required.
What Camera/Computer Equipment Do I Need During the Workshop?
You should bring a DSLR camera, and preferably a lens with a focal length of at least 70mm or greater. (Ideally a 70-200, a 100-400, or similar) A shorter lens (e.g. a 24-70, 24-105, a 50, or similar) or a macro lens (100mm or 135mm macro, or similar) will also be useful for detail shots . We will be utilizing natural light, so no flash equipment is necessary. Additionally, you get the most out of our classroom time if you bring a laptop, preferably with Photoshop.
What is the schedule like and what specifically will we be learning each day?
All three days will include a mix of classroom time and time spent photographing, so we start early morning and end just after sunset, in order to take advantage of the best times for photographing subjects. Day One will include introductions, classroom time focused on business (launching, branding, identity, marketing, best practices, etc.) and will include many useful resources. We will also do an early evening photo shoot. Then the group dinner (included in your registration fee). Day Two will be spent mostly on location shooting, with hands-on mentoring and Q&A time for both business and photography questions. Snacks, beverages, and lunch included. Day Three will include a mix of photo shoots and classroom time focused on Photoshop editing skills & possibilities. We will also discuss and review individual images and portfolios as time allows.
